A heartwarming story of a simple act of kindness…..

Car enthusiast, Paul Smith who attended the PoBoys October 2021 car club fundraising event with his 1998 Red Corvette race car, told us this story about how the act of kindness of Mark Wohlers signing baseballs to raise money led to an event that deeply touched another person bringing him to tears.

As Paul was handing out Trick or Treat candy on Halloween, 3 kids, their parents and an elderly gentleman came to Paul’s door. Paul looked at the gentleman and noticed he was wearing a Brave’s hat and jacket and said to him, “Hey, how about them Braves? I was at the World Series game 6 in 1995,  when we won!”    The gentleman smiled and said, “yeah that was the game Tom Glavine pitched 8 innings and Wohler’s came in to pitch the ninth and we won!”.

Paul noticed how visibly excited this gentleman was about his recollection of that game and said, “wait here just a minute, I want to give you something”. Upon returning from downstairs, Paul handed the gentleman the baseball that Mark Wohlers had just signed at the car show and said, “it’s Trick or Treat, I’d like you to have this”.

The gentleman looked at the baseball in disbelief and fell to one knee with tears in his eyes not knowing what to say.  Paul said, “go ahead, you will make much better use of this than I will”.

This goes to show us how one act of kindness can lead to other acts of kindness changing many lives and someone’s world in an instance.

Thank you, Mark Wohler’s, for your time in supporting the PoBoys charity and to Paul Smith for your generosity donating money for a signed baseball.  I’m sure that the gentleman who was just out trick or treating with his family will never forget your act of kindness!
